During this workshop participants will discover how to make a 16-page leporello book from one sheet of paper. We will work with collage and poetic fragments to create the content and then make the book with the visual material. We will talk about the relationship between image and text and the composition of the page. Each participant will have a copy of their own book by the end of the workshop.
The workshop is part of the Design the Poem! organized by European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists – EFFEA. During the residency Bulgarian visual artist Andrea Popyordanova is working with Polish poet Agata Puwalska.
No previous experience with bookmaking is needed. Free admission with limited number of participants. To sign up, please contact miloszfestival@kbf.krakow.pl
The workshop is led by Andrea Popyordanova: an artist and graphic designer interested in drawing and publishing who lives and works in Sofia. She graduated with a BA in Illustration from Edinburgh, Scotland (2015) and an Erasmus in Strasbourg, France, in Haute Ecoles des Arts Décoratifs (2014). She then went on to complete an MA in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art, London (2020).
She works as a freelance editorial designer for the culture sector – museums, galleries and artists in Sofia. In her artistic work she often uses various forms of the book as a medium. She works with narratives about understanding how we live and impact our surroundings, how we connect to land and the stories of the past embedded in it; how we are constantly shaping, and being shaped, by the landscape.
In 2025–2026 she is part of the artist research residency between France, Spain and Bulgaria during which she focuses on textile dyeing, painting on ceramics and working on a publication, related to ways we talk about our relationship to land.
The poetic text used in the images is by Agata Puwalska, translated by Karen Kovacik
