Independent Music March
Publicly funded culture often shies away from politics and is apprehensive when it comes to tackling socially important topics. It remains ostensibly neutral, which in turn may call into question its crucial role for us - the best platform for dialogue. After all, artistic independence can lead to a meeting rather than a clash of ideas. We consistently try to respond to the reality around us and enter into dialogue with it. For few years, we have been organising the festival during the Independence Day weekend, offering everybody an alternative way to spend this time. We want to continue this tradition and join in the Independence Day celebrations. We do not agree with reserving this holiday only for state or national initiatives. It is also our independence - let us enjoy it together.
For us, independence means being together. It means a lack of humility and standing our own ground - qualities that the festival's composers and artists definitely have. We have been presenting their independent works for years. Freedom is an inherent feature of independence. The right to vote, the freedom of the individual, respect for their rights to decide for themselves, to self-determination, to express their views - freedom is also a guarantee of democracy. Paradoxically, it also requires restriction, because our freedom cannot limit the freedom of another. In art, it is all about original expression and a lack of censorship. It is also about being open to experimentation and improvisation. Join us for a unique concert by the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra and take part in the Independent Music March in the very heart of Krakow!
