Jej najsłynniejszą książką jest dystopia Opowieść podręcznej (1985). Atwood jest laureatką licznych nagród, m.in. dwukrotnie Booker Prize, a także Arthur C. Clarke Award, Governor General's Award, Franz Kafka Prize, Prince of Asturias Award oraz nagród National Book Critics i PEN Center USA za całokształt twórczości. Jaka jest rola powieści w czasach masowej migracji, pogłębiających się podziałów kulturowych i odrodzenia mitotwórstwa – od populistycznej polityki po cyfrowe światy fantastyki? Dwoje wybitnych pisarzy badających filozoficzne aspekty współczesności, Burhan Sonmez i Olga Tokarczuk, porozmawia o tym, jak literatura odzwierciedla psychologiczne i polityczne terytoria, w których obecnie żyjemy i które odziedziczyliśmy po poprzednich epokach. Jest autorką czterech zbiorów opowiadań, dziewięciu powieści, z czego najnowszą jest Empuzjon (2022), trzech zbiorów esejów, libretta do opery Aleksandra Nowaka ahat ili. Siostra bogów, a także współautorką dwóch książek graficznych, które powstały we współpracy z ilustratorką Joanną Concejo.
Noblistkę uhonorowano tytułem doktory honoris causa na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim, Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim, Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim, Uniwersytecie Gdańskim oraz Uniwersytecie Marii Skłodowskiej-Curie w Lublinie, jak również na Uniwersytecie Sofijskim oraz Hong Kong Baptist University. Burhan Sonmez to wielokrotnie nagradzany kurdyjski powieściopisarz i prawnik z Turcji. 24 września 2021 roku, podczas Kongresu Stulecia PEN International, został wybrany prezesem PEN International. Jest autorem sześciu powieści: North (2009), Sins & Innocents (2011), przetłumaczonej na język polski Stambuł, Stambuł (2015, wyd. polskie 2017), Labyrinth (2018), Stone and Shadow (2021), Lovers of Franz K. (2024). Publikował także artykuły m.in. w „The Guardian”, „Der Spiegel” i „La Repubblica”. Jest członkiem Hughes Hall College oraz Trinity College na Uniwersytecie Cambridge.

Margaret Atwood is a Canadian novelist, poet, literary critic. Since 1961, she has published 18 books of poetry, 18 novels, 11 books of nonfiction, nine collections of short fiction, eight children's books, two graphic novels. Her best-known work is the 1985 dystopian novel The Handmaid's Tale. Atwood has won numerous awards and honors for her writing, including two Booker Prizes, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Governor General's Award, the Franz Kafka Prize, the Prince of Asturias Award for literature, and the National Book Critics and PEN Center USA Lifetime Achievement Awards. A number of her works have been adapted for film and television.

In a time of mass displacement, deepening cultural fragmentation, and renewed myth-making—from populist politics to digital fantasy worlds—what can the contemporary novel still do? This panel brings together two of the most vital and philosophically attuned literary voices of our time—Burhan Sonmez and Olga Tokarczuk— explore how fiction maps the psychological and political territories we inhabit and inherit. Both Sonmez and Tokarczuk are not just novelists, but public intellectuals, cultural critics, and thinkers whose work transcends the page. Sonmez's novels—rooted in the traumas of identity, political imprisonment, and the silence of language—speaks in poetic resistance to authoritarianism and the disintegration of truth. Tokarczuk, a Nobel laureate, writes with spiritual and philosophical depth about time, embodiment, borders, and the uncanny structures that govern our lives—whether scientific, religious, or bureaucratic. In their hands, literature becomes a form of travel—not just across lands, but through memory, trauma, history, and imagination.

Olga Tokarczuk is a distinguished Polish writer, essayist, and screenwriter, the 2018 Nobel Prize Laureate in Literature. She was also awarded the 2018 Man Booker International Prize for her novel Flights (Bieguni) and has won the Nike Literary Award twice — for Flights in 2008 and The Books of Jacob (Księgi Jakubowe) in 2015.
Tokarczuk is the author of four short story collections, nine novels, including her most recent work, The Empusium (Empuzjon, 2022), three essay collections, the libretto for Aleksander Nowak’s opera ahat ili. Sister of the Gods, and two graphic books created in collaboration with illustrator Joanna Concejo.
Tokarczuk has been honored with honorary doctorates from the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, University of Wrocław, University of Gdańsk, and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Internationally, she has received honorary doctorates from Sofia University and Hong Kong Baptist University. In Norway, she was awarded the Arne Næss Chair in Global Justice and the Environment. In 2023, she received the Jerzy Żuławski Literary Award and an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University.

Burhan Sonmez is an award-winning Kurdish novelist and lawyer from Türkiye. He was elected President of PEN International on the 24th of September 2021, during PEN International’s Centenary Congress. Sonmez is the author of six novels, North (2009), Sins & Innocents (2011), Istanbul Istanbul (2015), Labyrinth (2018), Stone and Shadow (2021), Lovers of Franz K. (2024), and has written for various papers including The Guardian, Der Spiegel, La Repubblica. He is a Senior Member of Hughes Hall College and Trinity College, University of Cambridge.
