ICE CLASSIC: Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
On the 10th of October in ICE Krakow as the finale of the ICE Classic series in 2022, we will hear a performance from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the best orchestras in Great Britain and the world. The class of this ensemble founded by Sir Thomas Beecham in 1946 is proven by countless recordings under the baton of the greatest conductors. In 2021 the eminent British-Russian conductor Vasily Petrenko became the orchestra's artistic director.
The concert will begin with Sergei Prokofiev's Symphony No. 1 in D major "Classical", one of the works that started the trend called neoclassicism in 20th-century music. The solo part in Max Bruch's light and cheerful Violin Concerto in G minor will be performed by the excellent violinist Sergei Krylov, and the evening will end with a performance of Jean Sibelius' monumental Symphony No. 2 in D major. It is one of the most outstanding works of Finnish music and has enjoyed unflagging popularity since its premiere in 1902.
